Welcome to the Thorlabs Laser Image Gallery

Thorlabs Recommends:
This book gives a broad treatment of Optical Coherence Tomography which includes 1)the optics, science, and physics needed to understand the technology 2)a description of applications with a critical look at how the technology will successfully address actual clinical need, and 3) a discussion of delivery of OCT to the patient, FDA approval and comparisons with available competing technologies.

Written by Dr. Mark Brezinski, this text provides and exceptional overview and comes recommended by Thorlabs.

News:
Thorlabs' new ASOM design wins the 2007 Phast/Laser Focus Innovation Award (May 2007)

Thorlabs is pleased of offer the world’s first optical imaging microscope based upon a new adaptive optic technology that circumvents the trade-off between field of view (FOV) and image resolution. By combining a high-speed steering mirror, a large aperture scan lens, and a deformable mirror, the Thorlabs Adaptive Scanning Optical Microscope (ASM8600) is capable of delivering a large field of view (40 mm in diameter) while simultaneously providing a uniform image resolution of 1.5 µm throughout the entire composite image. This is a major technological improvement over current microscope designs that can only generate similar results via moving stages, large microscope arrays, or very expensive lithography-based imaging systems.

Thorlabs adds 3D imaging capability to the Spectral Radar OCT imaging system (Feb. 2007)
Thorlabs is proud to announce the release of the new microscope sample interface for the spectral radar system, which includes 2D and 3D imaging capability. The microscope includes X- and Y- scanning mirrors with a built-in CCD camera to provide 2D surface imaging. When combined with the depth profiling capability of OCT, this system provides high-resolution 3D imaging in minutes. The system comes complete with PC and preloaded imaging software.

Thorlabs adds Doppler OCT imaging capability to the swept source OCT imaging system (Jan. 2007)
Thorlabs now offers a Doppler OCT imaging function to its swept source OCT system. Also known as ODT (optical Doppler tomography), this noninvasive technique combines the high spatial resolution (2-10 µm) of OCT with the high velocity sensitivity of ODT (50-100 µm/s) to provide simultaneous sample structural imaging and flow velocity measurements. This technique can be useful in studying cardiac flow during embryological developments, monitoring of vascular pathology and treatment response or flow velocimetry in micro-fluid channels. Please see the Developmental Biology webpage for more application information.

Thorlabs releases new 850 nm swept laser source for OCT applications (Nov. 2006)
Thorlabs now offer a swept laser source for OCT applications at 850 nm.  The source has a 3 dB bandwidth of 26 nm, which supports an axial resolution of 12 µm in free space and less than 10 µm in biological samples.  The laser generates 16,000 - 24,000 a-scans per second and supports an imaging depth of ~ 3mm in the sample. An sample application of using this laser for in-vivo human retina imaging can be found in the Retina Imaging application page.

Thorlabs receives honorable mention in CLEO/QELS PhAST/Laser Focus World Innovation Awards (May 2006)

Thorlabs new 1300 nm swept source Optical Coherence Tomography system has received innovation recognition. This system is based on a high speed, frequency swept external cavity semiconductor laser at (central wavelength 1325 nm, spectral bandwidth > 110nm) with an average output power > 10 mW. The system provides high-speed (16 kHz), high-resolution 2D and 3D imaging of turbid media. For real world applications of this system, please see our application pages on Developmental Biology, Biomedical, or Functional Imaging or see Thorlabs OCMP1300SS product page for technical specifications and pricing.
