Thorlabs' SLS701 Laser-Pumped Phosphor Light Source (U.S. Patent 10,317,046) provides stable illumination from 490 nm to 625 nm. The internal 445 nm pump laser is focused into a very small spot on a single-crystal phosphor, generating incoherent, broadband emission with a small etendue. This results in laser-level, high-radiance output at the fiber connector. A photodiode measures off-axis emission to create a feedback loop for closed-loop operation and increased power stability over time and temperature changes. The emitted light is coupled into an SMA905 bulkhead for connecting to a fiber patch cable. Refer to the diagram below for additional details. A patch cable is not included; recommended cables are available for purchase below.

The front panel controls and LCD screen offer full control of the source power, light intensity, open- and closed-loop operation modes, and enabling or disabling external trigger inputs. The back panel features BNC connectors for external triggering and power modulation inputs, as well as a monitor output and USB port. The software GUI available for download on the Software tab offers full remote control mirroring the functionality available on the front panel. Command line operation is also available using USB connectivity and a terminal emulator or a user-created program.

The right side panel features a filter tray for Ø1" or Ø25 mm spectral filters selected by the user, as shown in the photo to the upper right. This optional filter is located in the beam path just before the fiber coupling lens, as illustrated in the diagram below.

A fiber patch cable is not included; a variety of recommended compatible cables are available below.

The SLS701 light source does not include a fiber patch cable, but it is aligned and optimized for use with an M112L01 fiber patch cable. The M112L01 is a solarization-resistant multimode fiber patch cable that has SMA connectors, a Ø200 µm core, and 0.22 NA. Other fiber patch cables with SMA connectors can also be used with the SLS701 light source, but output power may vary. The table to the right provides the typical output powers for the source when used with a variety of different fiber patch cables.
