Thorlabs' D-Shaped Mirror Mounts are designed to secure our Ø1/2" or Ø1" D-shaped mirrors. These mounts can be oriented for horizontal or vertical mounting and utilize two nylon-tipped setscrews to hold the mirror within the mount. They can be easily secured to our Ø1/2" posts using either a 8-32 (M4) cap screw (Ø1" Kinematic Mounts) or setscrew (all others). The kinematic mounts offer ±4° of adjustment and can hold mirrors up to 6 mm (0.236") thick. The fixed mounts can hold mirrors up to 6.1 mm (0.24") thick.

we are designing a new optic setup for our lab, and if possible we want to have the optics in a cage system. We need a D-shape mirror our setup, but I have not found any D-shaped mirror Mount that fits into the cage system. Do you provide some kind of mount that allows to place a D-shape mount into a cage system?
Best regards and thanks for your help,
Alejandro YLohia
(posted 2020-05-26 11:11:23.0) Hello Alejandro, thank you for contacting Thorlabs. Unfortunately, we do not offer cage-compatible D-mounts at the moment. We have noted your request and will consider offering this in the future. Daniel Dickinson
(posted 2020-03-03 08:45:57.747) I'm wondering whether you make (or would consider making) a cage system compatible D-shaped mirror mount. I specifically would like to mount a 1" D-shaped mirror at a 45 degree angle within a 30 mm cage system. llamb

(posted 2018-08-22 10:50:37.763) I personally think there is a desperate need for a version of the kinematic 1/2 inch D shaped mirror mount in the Polaris style. There are two annoying qualities of these normal versions as designed.
Keeping in mind that this is coming from someone who is making compact integrated optical assemblies that do not use pedestals or clamps.
There is occasionally the need to integrate full angle control on a D shaped mirror, for instance when combining two close same wavelength beams in an interferometer configuration.
The problems with this mount (KM05DR) are:
1) it has a thread rather than a counterbore, this means i cannot be mounted from the top, but only screwed in from the bottom, meaning I have to make a special adapter plate for it.
2) The beam height of the center of the mirror is not 1/2 inch as designed.
3) No dowel pin holes makes integration difficult (for setting the angle)
Now you may say, that I should use the POLARIS-K05C4
Well now this is okay in some applications, but it has such long adjusters compared to many of the other polaris products and it takes up a lot of room on a board.
Another minor annoyance is that if you center the beam on a glued D shaped mirror, another beam that you are trying to pass above it will interfere with the gluing ring. I was doing to have to take this to the saw and cut off half the glueing ring to clear the aperture fully for a passing beam.
Thank you,
Robert llamb
(posted 2018-08-29 11:33:01.0) Hello Robert, thank you for your feedback! I have added all of your suggestions to our internal product forum so that we can look into a Polaris-style or at least a more compact style of our kinematic D-shaped mirror mounts. jjurado
(posted 2011-07-25 17:31:00.0) Response from Javier at Thorlabs to mijaeldv: Thank you very much for your feedback! We are currently finalizing the details of the design of kinematic mounts for our 1/2" and 1" diameter D-shaped mirrors. The adjustability and range and foot print will be similar to that of our KM100 kinematic mount: http://www.thorlabs.com/NewGroupPage9.cfm?ObjectGroup_ID=1492. I will contact you with more information about this product. mijaeldv
(posted 2011-07-25 12:03:53.0) Im currently doing research using these mounts. Due to the lack of adjustability, i have been forced to use a more complex and difficult set up for my experiment. It is definitely suggested that this mount should have a couple of knobs for adjustment, it would make it much more effective for any type application. klee

(posted 2009-06-22 12:16:22.0) This D-mirror is very useful, but the mount could be improved. I would like to see an adjustable kinematic mount with more clearance near the sharp edge of the D-mirror. Let the sharp edge protrude beyond the mount a couple of millimeters, and give us knobs to turn. Preferably the knobs would be low-profile. |
- Kinematic Mounts for Ø1/2" or Ø1" D-Shaped Mirrors
- Compact Design for Beam Pickoff in Tight Spaces Without Clipping
- Mount Horizontally or Vertically
- Angular Range of ±4°
- Resolution:
- KM05DR(/M) and KM05DL(/M): 13 mrad (0.75°) per Rev
- KM100D and KM100DL: 8 mrad (0.5°) per Rev
- Maximum Optic Thickness: 6 mm (0.236")
- Post Mountable; Right- or Left-Handed Versions Available
Thorlabs' Kinematic D-Shaped Mirror Mounts are specifically designed to mount our Ø1/2" or Ø1" D-shaped mirrors. Two nylon-tipped setscrews secure the mirror in the mount. These mounts feature a compact design to maximize clearance and avoid clipping in beam pickoff applications.
The KM05DR(/M) and KM05DL(/M) offer an angular adjustment range of ±4° with 13 mrad (0.75°) of adjustment per revolution via two 3/16"-100 precision hex adjusters. The KM100D and KM100DL offer an angular adjustment range of ±4° with 8 mrad (0.5°) of adjustment per revolution via two 1/4"-80 precision adjusters with removable knobs. All adjusters can be actuated using a HKTS-5/64 hex key thumbscrew or other 5/64" hex key. The optic is retained with two nylon-tipped 0.050" (1.3 mm) hex setscrews.
Each mount is available in right- or left-handed versions. The KM05DR(/M) and KM05DL(/M) mounts are post mountable in a vertical or horizontal orientation via two 8-32 (M4) tapped holes. The KM100D and KM100DL have two #8 (M4) counterbored holes for post mounting (imperial and metric screws included). The knobs on the KM100D and KM100DL are removable, exposing hex-socket adjusters for placement in tight areas.
- Easily Mount Our D-Shaped Mirrors
- Mount Horizontally or Vertically
- Maximum Optic Thickness: 6.1 mm (0.24")
- Post Mountable via 8-32 (M4) Tap
These mounts, which can be oriented either vertically or horizontally, are designed for use with our Ø1/2" or Ø1" D-shaped mirrors. They are directly compatible with our extensive line of 1/2" posts via their 8-32 (M4) mounting thread.
For applications where space is limited, this line of D-shaped mounts can also be used with round, plano Ø1/2" or Ø1" optics.
