Features
- Sub-mm-Level Precision Beam Steering
- Post-Mountable and FiberBench Compatible Versions Available
- Five AR Coatings Available:
- A (350 - 700 nm)
- B (650 - 1050 nm)

Thorlabs' Tweaker Plates are designed to allow adjustable beam displacement within an optical system. We offer a post-mountable, free-space tweaker plate, as well as a FiberBench-compatible tweaker plate. Both versions have an AR-coated, plane-parallel plate mounted on them. These plates feature Thorlabs' standard A (350 - 700 nm), B (650 - 1050 nm), C (1050 - 1620 nm), D (1650 - 3000 nm), or E (2000 - 5000 nm) AR coating. The A, B, and C coatings have <0.5% average reflectance over their specified wavelength ranges, while the D coating has <1.0% average reflectance and the E coating has <1.25% average reflectance over their respective wavelength ranges. The A, B, and C coated plates are made from UV fused silica (UVFS), while the D and E coated plates are made from calcium fluoride (CaF2). The reflectance curves for all five coatings are located on the Graphs tab.

(posted 2022-01-05 05:07:29.0) Thank you for reaching out to us and finding this webpage error. We are in the process of correcting this, and it should be updated shortly. Thank you again for finding this error! david.szwer
(posted 2016-06-20 15:12:09.19) We currently use microscope slides for beam displacement. Your plate would be better for us because it is more compact, and AR-coated. However, we need precise rotations around a vertical axis, rather than manual tweaking on a ball joint. Are these glass plates available by themselves, please, so that we can use our own rotation mounts? Either unmounted or mounted (e.g. epoxied to the top of a 1/2" post) would be good. besembeson

(posted 2013-05-07 08:19:33.53) It would make much more sense if it was mounted on an adapter plate for a horizontal kinematic mount.
this way, fine adjustment would not depend on the "dexterity of the user"
Sincerely

(posted 2013-05-09 16:26:00.0) Response from Chris at Thorlabs: Thank you for your feedback. The design was intended to be easy to use and at a low cost to the customer. If more precision movement is necessary, I think the best solution would be to use a 1" window with our gimbal mount GMB1 for +/- 15 degrees of micrometer driven adjustment. |
- 50° Adjustment Cone and Three 90° Positions
- Free-Space Beam Steering with Sub-mm Level Precision
- Post-Mountable and Fully Lockable
- Three AR Coatings Available:
- A (350 - 700 nm)
- B (650 - 1050 nm)
- C (1050 - 1620 nm)
- Maximum Suggested Beam Diameter: 4 mm
This post-mountable tweaker plate module consists of a precision-polished, AR-coated, plane-parallel plate mounted on Thorlabs' TRB1 ball and socket adapter. It allows for quick and precise beam displacement and provides a 50° adjustment cone along with three 90° positions. The module can be adjusted in increments of 10 µm by hand, depending on the dexterity of the user, and can be mounted onto a Ø1/2" post via an 8-32 (M4) tapped hole in the base. It also has three radially positioned locking screws to lock the ball and socket in place, which also work as tension adjusters for precision alignment. Upon locking, the beam may shift by ±2 µm. This module is ideal for both horizontal and vertical free-space beam steering and for correcting known offsets of optical systems. The module is shipped with a hex key.
The AR-coated plane-parallel plate has <0.5% average reflectance over its specified wavelength range. The plates have Thorlabs' standard A (350 - 700 nm), B (650 - 1050 nm), or C (1050 - 1620 nm) AR coating. The reflection curves for all five coatings are located in the Graphs tab above. The performance of the AR coatings on these optics deteriorates at angles of incidence beyond 30°. For general information about optical coating performance, please see our optical coatings guide.
- Use for Beam Steering or Offset Correction within a FiberBench System
- Vertical and Horizontal Beam Displacement with Sub-mm Level Precision
- Five AR Coatings Available:
- A (350 - 700 nm)
- B (650 - 1050 nm)
- C (1050 - 1620 nm)
- D (1650 - 3000 nm)
- E (2000 - 5000 nm)
- Use as a Variable Attenuator with 0 - 20 dB Range with Steps of Roughly 0.5 dB
The XY Tweaker Module, for use in Thorlabs' FiberBench systems, consists of a precision-polished, AR-coated, plane-parallel plate mounted on a magnetic ball and socket for 360° rotation. The module allows for quick and precise displacement of a beam parallel to the optical axis, thus enabling several hundred microns of positional correction in increments of roughly 10 µm, depending on the dexterity of the user. The 2.5 mm thick plates can be rotated and tilted in nearly any orientation. The beam is consequently displaced parallel to the optical axis by as much as 500 µm, as shown in the graph on the Overview tab above. However, the performance of the AR coating on these optics deteriorates at angles of incidence beyond 30°. For general information about optical coating performance, please see our optical coatings guide.
