(posted 2022-02-23 01:22:51.57) What's the tolerance on the minimal optical thickness that each mount can accept? (as stated in the relevant table)
How feasible is it to use the FMP3 (3") fixed mount (which is stated to only accept a minimal optical thickness of 7.1mm) - to accommodate a 3" round plate that is 6mm thick?
Thanks cdolbashian
(posted 2022-02-24 04:49:38.0) Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the minimum mountable optic thickness for our mirror mounts. Due to the mounting method the optic must be at least the specced thickness in order for the optic to both, mount flush with the back surface of the housing, and be fully contacted with the nylon-tipped setscrew. tdinneen
(posted 2018-08-21 15:30:29.71) Ring (3mm) to allow FMP1 set screw to grab thinner optics or grab the ring while trapping thinner optics. This would be useful in drop-in test systems where the optic is not always conveniently sized. YLohia
(posted 2018-08-22 08:30:44.0) Hello, thank you for contacting Thorlabs. For optics thinner than the min thickness spec for the FMP1, we recommend using the LMR1 mount that can be found on this page: https://www.thorlabs.com/newgrouppage9.cfm?objectgroup_ID=1433. It does not have a min optic thickness spec since the optic is secured using retaining rings. If your optic is very thin, the SM1LTRR retaining ring is recommended to minimize stress due to mounting. |

Our Mini-Series Fixed Mirror Mounts are available for Ø7 mm, Ø10 mm, or Ø1/2" optics. They feature a double-bored mounting area that provides two stable lines of contact. The rear of the optic rests against a small lip, and the optic is secured by a nylon-tipped setscrew which can be actuated by a 0.05" balldriver or hex key on the imperial mounts or a 1.5 mm balldriver or hex key on the metric mounts. These mounts are designed to provide a 10 mm optic axis height when measured from the bottom of the mount to match our Mini-Series Kinematic Mounts. The MFM05(/M) is also compatible with Ø12.5 mm optics, but the optic will not be centered in the mount. A bottom-located 4-40 (M3) tapped hole is provided to mount directly to our Ø6 mm Mini-Series posts or Ø12 mm pedestal posts. Our Mini-Series post holders allow our Ø6 mm posts to be mounted onto our Mini-Series breadboards.

- Nylon-Tipped Locking Setscrew with 5/64" (2.0 mm) Hex
The FMP Optical Mounts offer a simple way to mount mirrors or other optical components. The mounts feature a double-bored mounting area that provides two lines of stable contact. The rear of the optic rests against a small shoulder, which maintains a clear aperture that is nearly as large as the optic itself. The optic is held in place by an locking setscrew, which can be fastened using a 5/64" (2.0 mm) balldriver or hex key. See the table to the right for the minimum optic thickness that each mount accepts. The mounts are directly compatible with our Ø1/2" Posts via the 8-32 (M4) tapped hole on the bottom.
Select FMP optical mounts are available in a pack of 5.

These Standard 30 mm Cage Plates allow Ø1/2" or Ø1" mirrors or other optical components to be aligned in our 30 mm cage system. The double-bored mounting area provides two lines of stable contact to hold the optic. A top-located, nylon-tipped setscrew, which can be fastened with a 5/64" (2.0 mm) balldriver or hex key, secures the optic in place. The optic must be at least 0.15" (3.8 mm) thick in order to be properly mounted in these cage plates. A bottom-located 8-32 (M4) tap allows for post mounting. Each cage rod through hole has a side-located locking screw, which can be secured using a 5/64" (2.0 mm) balldriver or hex key.

Cage rod arms can flex to compensate for cage rod misalignment due to tolerance stacking.
- Self-Aligning Cage Rod Arms Eliminate Cage Plate Binding
- Double Bore for Ø1" Optics
- Directly Mounts Optical Components Within a 30 mm Cage System Assembly
- Post Mountable via 8-32 (M4) Tapped Hole
- Nylon-Tipped Locking Setscrew
The CP06F(/M) Flexure Cage Plate features a flexure arm design for locking onto 30 mm cage rods. This design compensates for the tolerance stacking effects common in cage systems, ensuring that the cage plate never binds or sticks within a constructed cage segment. The cage plate's orthogonal flexure arms remain rigid when handled, but will flex slightly to provide compensation for rod misalignment when installed within a constructed cage segment. This unique feature is illustrated in the diagram to the right. In contrast with the standard setscrew retention method of the CP35 Cage Plate, each CP06F arm clamps onto cage rods using a separate flexure clamp that increases holding force and cage plate rigidity.
This cage plate is 0.35" (8.9 mm) thick and provides a center-located Ø1" double bore for mounting a Ø1" optic at least 0.125" (3.2 mm) thick. The optic is retained by a nylon-tipped setscrew with a 5/64" (2.0 mm) hex. The cap screw on each flexure cage rod through hole can be tightened using a 5/64" (2.0 mm) hex key or Thorlabs' HKTS-5/64 Hex Key Thumbscrews.
The CP06F(/M) cage plate can be post-mounted via the 8-32 (M4) tapped hole on the bottom. We also offer the CP02F(/M) Cage Plate with Internal SM1 Threads.
- Directly Accepts a Ø2" (Ø50.8 mm) Optic at Least 0.27" (6.9 mm) Thick
- Mounts Optics Within a 60 mm Cage System Assembly
- Nylon-Tipped Setscrew Secures Optic
- 8-32 (M4) Tapped Hole for Mounting to Ø1/2" Posts
The LCP35(/M) Cage Plate features a Ø2.00" double bore which centers the optic. A nylon-tipped locking setscrew provides a third point of contact and secures optics at least 0.27" (6.9 mm) thick. Each cage rod through hole includes a side-located, 5/64" (2.0 mm) hex locking setscrew for securing the position of the LCP35(/M) within a 60 mm cage system. For additional convenience, an 8-32 (M4) tapped hole is provided for post mounting and OEM mounting applications. As with the LCP34/M shown at the top of the page, the LCP35/M also features a small dimple indicating it is a metric part.
