Thorlabs' Cage Cubes for Right-Angle Optics allow for mounting of 25 mm x 25 mm right-angle mirrors or prisms within a 30 mm cage system. Each cube consists of a kinematic base with four SM1-threaded (1.035"-40) ports surrounded by four
Additional cube inserts (sold separately below) can be used to exchange optics and to quickly switch between transmissive and left- or right-deflected beam paths. This is ideal for laser steering applications. The cube base is also separately available for purchase. The same base is used in Thorlabs' fluorescence filter cube and beamsplitter cube systems, enabling a user to exchange right-angle mirrors/prisms, fluorescence filter sets, and beamsplitter cubes within an aligned optical setup. Two adjacent kinematic cubes can be connnected using a cage cube connector (sold separately below); the connector can be attached via the 4-40 tapped holes and unthreaded alignment holes surrounding each port.
For convenience, Thorlabs also offers 30 mm cage cubes with pre-installed right-angle mirrors.

The DFM1RM(/M) Cube (Left Panel) and DFM1LM(/M) Cube (Right Panel) used to direct a beam to the right or left, respectively. Light from a CPS532 Laser Diode was diverted by a MRA25-P01 Right-Angle Prism Mirror installed in each cube.
- Kinematic Cage-Compatible Cubes for Mounting Right-Angle Mirrors or Prisms
- DFM1RM(/M): Right-Turning Orientation
- DFM1LM(/M): Left-Turning Orientation
- Four 4-40 Tapped Holes Around Each SM1-Threaded Port for Cage System Compatibility
- Three Bottom-Located 1/4"-20 (M6) Tapped Holes for Post Mounting
These Cage-Compatible Cubes consist of a post-mountable cube base and a removable insert that can securely hold a right-angle mirror or prism. The cube insert is magnetically retained in the cube base, allowing for repeatable removal and insertion of optics in an aligned setup. As depicted in the image to the right, the DFM1RM(/M) and DFM1LM(/M) cubes turn beams 90° to the right and left, respectively. These cubes do not include a pre-mounted mirror; for kinematic cage cubes with pre-mounted mirrors, see our 30 mm beam-turning cubes.
The DFM1xM cube inserts have two SM1-threaded ports to mount Ø1" optics (up to 5.0 mm thick) against the back lip (two SM1RR retaining rings included). The mounting bar to hold the right-angle mirror within the cage cube can be removed using the included 3/32" hex key (see the image above). The SM1 ports on the DFM1xM are at an optical axis height of 1.25" and 30 mm for the imperial and metric versions, respectively.
All four sides of the turning cube base have an SM1-threaded port and four 4-40 tapped holes for compatibility with Ø6 mm cage rods. Each cube base has three bottom-located 1/4"-20 (M6) tapped holes that are directly compatible with top taps of our Ø1" and Ø1.5" posts, and the bottom tap of our Ø1/2" posts, using a user-supplied 1/4"-20 (M6) setscrew. Alternatively, an AE8E25E (AE4M6M) thread adapter can be used for compatibility with the top tap of our Ø1/2" posts.
Empty beam-turning cube inserts, base, and a cover plate are also sold separately below.

- Empty Kinematic Base and Inserts for Mounting User-Provided Right-Angle Mirrors
- Ideal for Quickly Switching Mirrors or Turning Beam Direction in an Aligned Experimental Setup
- Cube Base with Four 4-40 Tapped Holes Around Each SM1-Threaded (1.035"-40) Port for 30 mm Cage System Compatibility
- Three Bottom-Located 1/4"-20 (M6) Tapped Holes for Post Mounting
- Cover Plate for Uninterrupted Beam Transmission Available
These Kinematic Beam-Turning Cube Inserts (item #s DFM1T2 and DFM1T4) and Base [item # DFM1B(/M)] are ideal for mounting and exchanging right-angle mirrors or prisms within an aligned experimental setup.
The DFM1T2 and DFM1T4 cube inserts are designed to hold right-angle prisms or mirrors with sides measuring 25 mm x 25 mm. Two SM1-threaded ports on the cube inserts are available to mount Ø1" optics (up to 5.0 mm thick) against the back lip (two SM1RR retaining rings included). The mounting bar for holding the right-angle mirror within the cage cube can be removed using the included 3/32" hex key. The DFM1T2 insert holds a right-angle mirror in a right-turning orientation, and the DFM1T4 insert in a left-turning orientation. Thus, replacing the DFM1T2 insert with the DFM1T4 insert results in a 180° change in beam direction (see image to the right). These inserts are compatible with the Beam-Turning Cubes sold above as well as Thorlabs' Fluorescence Filter Cube and Beamsplitter Cube Systems.
Magnetic retention of a cube insert within the base allows for repeatable removal and insertion of optics in an aligned setup. All four sides of the DFM1B turning cube base have an SM1-threaded port and four 4-40 tapped holes for compatibility with Ø6 mm cage rods.
The ports on the cage cube base are at an optical axis height of 1.25" and 30 mm for the imperial and metric versions, respectively. The DFM1C Cage Cube Cover is also available for users who need a insert cover for when a turning mirror is not installed within the cube. When used with the SM1CP2 End Cap, this cover reduces the amount of stray light entering through the top or unused ports.

Two DFM1-P01 Beam Turning Cubes Connected Using the C4W-CC Cage Cube Connector
- Connect Two Beam Turning, Fluorescence Filter, or Beamspliter Cubes Side by Side
- Remove and Interchange Cube Inserts while the Cube Bases are Connected
- Compatible with C4W and C6W Cage Cubes
The C4W-CC Cage Cube Connector allows two kinematic beam turning, fluorescence filter, or beamsplitter cubes to be connected together as shown in the image to the right. Two pins on the C4W-CC are accepted by drilled holes on either side of any of the SM1-threaded (1.035"-40) ports on the cage cube faces to maintain alignment. Cube inserts can still be removed and inserted while the cube bases are connected.
The C4W-CC is also compatible with our 30 mm cage cubes.
