Thorlabs' 60 mm Cage Cubes for Right-Angle Optics allow 50 mm x 50 mm right-angle mirrors or prisms to be mounted within a 60 mm cage system. Each cube consists of a kinematic base with four SM2-threaded (2.035"-40) ports centered within four
Additional cube inserts (sold separately below) can be used to exchange optics and to quickly switch between optics in an aligned setup. The cube base is also available separately for purchase. The same base is used in Thorlabs' 60 mm cage-compatible fluorescence filter cubes, enabling a user to exchange right-angle mirrors/prisms and fluorescence filter sets within an aligned optical setup. Two adjacent kinematic cubes can be connected using the 60 mm cage cube connector (sold separately below). The connector can be attached via the 4-40 tapped holes and unthreaded alignment holes surrounding each port.

Mechanical Drawing of the DFM2RM(/M)
- Kinematic 60 mm Cage-Compatible Cubes for Mounting 50 mm x 50 mm Right-Angle Prisms
- Four 4-40 Tapped Holes Around Each SM2-Threaded (2.035"-40) Port for 60 mm Cage System Compatibility
- Three Bottom-Located 1/4"-20 (M6) Tapped Holes for Post Mounting
This 60 mm Cage-Compatible Cube consists of a post-mountable cube base and a removable insert that can securely hold a right-angle prism or mirror with sides measuring 50 mm x 50 mm. The cube insert is magnetically retained in the cube base, allowing for repeatable insertion in an aligned setup. This cube does not include a pre-mounted prism or mirror.
Cube inserts have two SM2-threaded ports with an optic retention lip to mount Ø2" optics up to 9.0 mm thick (two SM2RR retaining rings included). The mounting bar to hold the right-angle mirror within the cage cube can be removed using the included 3/32" hex key. The ports are at an optical axis height of 1.75" and 45 mm for the imperial and metric versions, respectively.
The cube insert is designed to be inserted in a single orientation with respect to the cube base, so it is important to orient the full cube assembly in the proper direction. Refer to the diagram in the Overview tab above to see how to orient the beam turning cube within your system.
All four sides of the turning cube base have an SM2-threaded port and four 4-40 tapped holes for compatibility with Ø6 mm cage rods. Each cube base has three bottom-located 1/4"-20 (M6) tapped holes that are directly compatible with top taps of our Ø1" and Ø1.5" posts, and the bottom tap of our Ø1/2" posts, using a user-supplied 1/4"-20 (M6) setscrew. Alternatively, an AE8E25E (AE4M6M) thread adapter can be used for compatibility with the top tap of our Ø1/2" posts.
An empty beam-turning cube insert, base, and cover plate are also sold separately below.
- Empty Kinematic Base and Insert for Mounting User-Provided Right-Angle Mirrors
- Ideal for Quickly Switching Mirrors in an Aligned Experimental Setup
- Cube Base with Four 4-40 Tapped Holes Around Each SM2-Threaded (2.035"-40) Port for 60 mm Cage System Compatibility
- Three Bottom-Located 1/4"-20 (M6) Tapped Holes for Post Mounting
- Cover Plate for Uninterrupted Beam Transmission Available
The 60 mm Cage-Compatible Kinematic Beam-Turning Cube Insert (DFM2T2) and Base [DFM2B(/M)] are ideal for mounting and exchanging right-angle mirrors or prisms within an aligned experimental setup. They are compatible with the Beam-Turning Cubes sold above as well as Thorlabs' 60 mm Cage-Compatible Fluorescence Filter Cubes. These items do not include a prism or mirror.
The DFM2T2 cube insert is designed to hold a right-angle prism or mirror with sides measuring 50 mm x 50 mm. Two SM2-threaded ports on the cube insert can mount Ø2" optics up to 9.0 mm thick against the back lip (two SM2RR retaining rings are included). The mounting bar for holding the right-angle mirror within the cage cube can be removed using the included 3/32" hex key.
Magnetic retention of a cube insert within the base allows for repeatable insertion of optics in an aligned setup. The cube insert is designed to be inserted in a single orientation with respect to the cube base, so it is important to orient the full cube assembly in the proper direction. Refer to the diagram in the Overview tab above to see how to orient the beam turning cube within your system.

The DFM2C Cage Cube Cover is also available for users who need a insert cover for when a turning mirror is not installed within the cube. When used with the SM2CP2 End Cap, this cover reduces the amount of stray light entering through the top or unused ports.

Two 60 mm Cage-Compatible Beam Turning Cubes Connected Using the DFM2-CC Cage Cube Connector
- Connect Two 60 mm Cage-Compatible Beam Turning or Fluorescence Filter Cubes Side by Side
- Remove and Interchange Cube Inserts while the Cube Bases are Connected
- Eight 4-40 Screws (1/16" Hex) Included for Attaching Cage Cubes
The DFM2-CC Cage Cube Connector allows two kinematic 60 mm cage cubes to be connected together, as shown in the image to the right. The connector is attached to the cage cubes using the eight included 4-40 screws (1/16" hex key included) in the cage rod holes. Two pins on the DFM2-CC are accepted by drilled holes on either side of any of the SM2-threaded (2.035"-40) ports on the cage cube faces to maintain alignment. Fluorescence filter and beam turning cube inserts can still be removed and inserted while the cube bases are connected.
